5 Ways to Make Friends

1020155_39660993 So you want friends to hang out with (I mean like, real friends)? Here’s 5 steps to help you with that.

1. Look up. Put down your mobile, your laptop, your tablet, and look up. You’re not going to make friends staring at screen. For a video worth watching, click here LOOK UP

2. Step out. If you want to find friends, you have to meet people. So whether you do it easily or you’re super shy, find ways to step out there. All it takes is a “Hi,” with a smile. Don’t just wish for people to find you, go out and find people. Join clubs in things you like doing, or better still, just go and try new things! You could surprise yourself with the people you meet. Look for the opportunities and when you find them, take them.

3. Listen. Epictetus, a greek philosopher, once said, “We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.” Maybe he was right. People want someone to listen to them – so when you’re trying to make friends, make sure you listen as much as you can. Your time will come eventually to talk.

4. Consider their needs. People have many different ideas of what makes someone a friend, but central to all the different ideas is this concept – friends are people who do/give something to/for you. So it stands to reason, that if you want friends, you’ll have to be a friend to them – and that means you’ll have to meet this central concept of friendship.

5. Give. This step is basically a continuation of step four. What is it that makes a friend who they are? They give. Whether it’s time, emotional support, companionship, or gifts: friends give.

I hope you find this helpful. I know it’s short and simple, but sometimes things have to be short and simple. Best wishes in your hunt for friends! P.S. There are friends that stick closer than family – you just have to find them.
